Orchard House, Concord, Ma

Leap year 2016 has been significant for widely changing weather in Montreal with piercing gropple. It is also the day after the most political of Academy Awards. It was two days after the arrival of the 25,000 refuges from Syria. Tomorrow is Super Tuesday. By Wednesday morning Montreal will have plummeting temperatures and 30cm of snow.  With the internet and the shrinking global village, events are known quickly and all form opinions rapidly.

Orchard House in Concorde, Ma, housed Louisa May Alcott( 1832-1888) and her family. I began reading her books, ‘Little Women’, ‘Little Men’, etc in the 1960’s. I first visited her home in 2007 and discovered where she went to school and I heard of the group of intellectuals who frequented Orchard House. Her parents received Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry David Thoreau to discuss and debate the issues of the day. They had no TV nor internet to sway them; they formed their opinions through reading and exchanging. For me this house is my cry to people casting votes tomorrow to think, independently, and recognize the import of their actions.

No doubt if she voted, Louisa May Alcott would have studied her options before adding her signature. Have you? do you?
