Slide into Winter/photo/Chassons la Noirceur

A new season begins in a day. Fall began  mildly  in PEI and continued snow-free in Montreal. The grass remains green, perennials are sprouting. Frost has hardly touched the earth.

Quel cadeau!

Seasons melt from one into another rather imperceptually . Not so with sunsets. Each one heralds the onset of night and signals the end of something. Some days it is more than the earth’s rotation. Some days when the sun dips below the horizon, a life ends, a relationship implodes or a hope dissolves.

As sure as daylight will return is the knowledge that tomorrow will soon be another day full of new obstacles, challenges, sadness but also joys and experiences. Starting afresh with renewed intensity and vigor will overcome the hurt of what was or could have been. What we make of this new start is in our hands, at least partially. Right?
