Vernissage/Art show success

ImagePutting together a successful art show is a collaborative effort. On Sunday Apr 21 everything came together: from good weather, to well-hung works of art, to food and drink, to stunning floral arrangements, but mainly the presence of friends and family to encourge the amateur artists of senior years.

Selling is exciting but it is not the be all and end all of a seniors’ art show. My dad was able to come from his nursing home to attend the show and was pleased to see all his friends, and he felt his Grandson did a great job lining up his 6 watercolours.

Leaving an active independent living center for a nursing home requires resilience and acceptance of one’s limits. It has not been an easy 16 day transition for my parents. They are remarkable. The art show was the tonic my dad needed. It changed his emotional palate, although, like with watercolours, the final, lighter colour is perceived only with time, when dry.

I also sold one painting, my Irises. My style is influenced by one who is NEVER allowed to touch my paper, my dear mentor, my Dad
